Dougga - Thugga, during Antiquity – is undoubtedly the most prestigious site of Tunisian archaeology. It owes its reputation to the state of conservation of its vestiges which, almost in their original state, provide us with a picture of the different components of an Ancient city, despite the interpenetration of the different historical strata within the Roman stratum, dating to both before and after this historical period and that are illustrated by various monuments from proto-history to the Moslem middle ages. After a brief historical introduction, the author guides us through the maze of ruins on a commented visit of sixty or so of the main monuments dating to the different periods. Well illustrated.
